This year, I was asked by the folks of the National Catholic Singles Conference to organize a Catholic Speed Dating party. I was thrilled to say yes!
For as long as I can remember, I've loved playing matchmaker -- and I always was eager for someone to play matchmaker for me!
I have many friends who are dating because I've set them up, and one couple even married recently!
Three years ago, I planned a Catholic Speed Dating Event at my local parish. Our fun evening resulted in 41 matches and raised over $600 for rebuilding efforts of the Catholic Church in Haiti. I had so much fun that I couldn't wait to do it again! Since that time, I have completely redesigned the format to accommodate a much larger crowd and to give more choice, flexibility, and confidentiality to participants.
Today I am married to a wonderful man named Michael, and we have a precious baby boy. And although Michael and I didn't meet while speed dating, we met through another very purposeful avenue: a Catholic dating website. Just like Catholic speed dating, a Catholic dating website allowed Michael and I to meet because we had a shared vision; we were there because we both felt called to the vocation of marriage, and we wanted our marriage to have God at the center. Amen!
Our prayer is that the Catholic Speed Dating event on September 27th brings about more strong and faithful marriages -- which our world desperately needs more of!
